Pageant season is almost ending for the state and local pageants and I was so excited to go cheer for my girl Tawny at this competition! I don't know much about the United States system but they have a great reputation on PageantPlanet and are fantastic with social media and was excited to see it put into action!
This competition was combined with Oregon and Washington where the titles of Jr. Teen, Teen, and Miss were awarded. Only one girl from Oregon (or two?) came to compete and they were great competitors! I'm sure the new Miss Oregon United States will do great at nationals!
There were 3 phases of competition: active wear, on stage question, and evening gown, plus the all important off stage interview. I loved active wear because the girls really got to show off their personality not only in walk but also in their style of athletic wear! It was fun and a little bit quirky especially after so many bikini portions. On stage question was completely different than what I saw at Miss East King County; these questions were much less political but more informing on the girls eloquence and platform which all the girls brought into their onstage answer. Evening gown was, evening gown. It was full of elegance and style and those girls had some great walks I definitely felt like I got to know them as they walked on stage.
The worst part of the pageant was, of course, waiting for the accountant to tally up the scores and with 3 divisions of girls competing it took quite a bit of time. Luckily, there were some awesome people in the audience to talk to and the MC and last years queens did their best to entertain the crowd as numbers were crunched. The time for tallying scores was a little bit fantastic because I was able to meet the pageant director, a friend of Tawny's, and even got see of my fellow competitors from Miss Washington USA who were visiting title holders! It was so great to connect and learn about their systems and experiences. The Washington pageant community is a small one for sure!
At the end we were finally able to find out who won and 3 of the fellow competitors from Miss Washington USA 2015 placed Top 4! Tawny placed 4th runner up and Shelby Maeder placed 2nd runner up, and Gelly Lirio (who was Top 5 at Miss Washington USA ) won! There is just so much happiness when you know the girls that are placing and winning especially when you've seen them grow and get to know them better! I definitely have a lot to learn from my sash sisters as they did so amazing, especially Gelly's evening gown walk!
