For me, competing in Miss Washington USA, will be completely out of my comfort zone. I’m 22, studying at the University of Washington in Seattle and am studying German and a minor in Education Learning and Societies. I’m a gymnastics coach and volunteer helping recent immigrants and refugees do their homework.
So why compete in this pageant?
These past 2 years have been a whirlwind of struggle and perseverance.
I couldn’t afford college and didn’t know when I’d get to go back, during that time I couldn’t find a job except at a small part time position coaching swimming to children. I applied for every job under the sun and even to the UW as a student; I was willing to try anything to have my life move forward.
Fast forward to that summer and I’ve gotten a great job managing a pool and have been accepted to the UW. My life was “back on track”! This past spring break my living situation became unsafe and packed up everything and moved to Seattle, my safe haven.
I became financially independent and continuing to pursue my degree and switched jobs. I’ve continued to strive to be the best I can be and that includes becoming a vegan and making more sustainable, local choices.
What does this have to do with pageants? I am competing to celebrate the woman I have become and the woman I want to be. This pageant will be an opportunity to push my boundaries in an exhilarating and fun environment.
I would also love to expand how I am a role model to children and teens who are struggling with unsafe environments, being self supportive, and how through anything you can still accomplish your goals.
I would be so proud to represent all of our beautiful and completely unique state. So I’m asking you to share this video and to please support me in my goal to become Miss Washington USA.
How can you help? On this page you can support me financially, I do have entry fees. If you have tips or advice, I am so excited hear them. If you want to do or provide my make-up, hair, nails, tan, etc. I am more than happy to post your amazing products on my blog, instagram, and Facebook. If you have an old prom dress or pageant dress or black cocktail dress you’re willing to loan. Anything and everything helps.
Feel free to ask me any questions :)
