Since all of my paperwork and photos for the pageant are due ASAP, I got my head shots done today. Luckily, I got them for free because I advertised on our school Facebook what these photos were for and people were interested in shooting them! Using student photographers is a great resource! We met up and I was so nervous about doing my make up poorly because I had only done it a couple times this whole summer because of my job.
| Luckily, in the pictures I look pretty natural which is crazy considering the amount of BB cream, eyeshadow, and blush I had on. This is not one of the pictures but rather a selfie I took because I was feeling real good and thought I deserved a selfie on the beautiful tree lined side walk to main campus. To do all of this I had to go to Bartells, the closest drug store with cruelty free make up, that opened early. I realized, through many youtube tutorials, that I didn't have the right brushes, colors, etc. I "had" to go shopping! Ecotools are 100% vegan and more expensive than I had anticipated. The Wet'nWild products I bough are cruelty-free but are not vegan :( One contains beeswax and the other carmine... Thank ye gods that they were on sale and at least cruelty free. I hate how impossible it is to find vegan brands in drugstores; you know for those emergencies where you can't order from small businesses online. |
So, the photoshoot was really fun because he knew what he was doing and we're both personable. He had good ideas, thank god, because I had no idea what I was doing! He knew the spots to go, which lenses to use, etc. It's impressive to me, at least. We got some cute shots that will probably end up being my senior photos.
After the shoot I went shopping and continued to not find any pageant gear I wanted but did buy a pair of New Balances for $16! On my way home this happened:

Strange Man: Hi, how are you?
Me: I'm fine thank you. How are you?
Strange Man: Can I get some vagina?
Me: No. You better keep walking.
Strange Man: *stops and walks towards me aggressively* What'd you say?
Me: You better back the fuck off!

I know some people would say, "well why did you talk to a strange man?" and my response is that this is a normal, daily thing that happens to me in other places in Seattle and the men are complete gentlemen and while they may ask politely for a date they do not get aggressive. I am trying build a community, starting with myself, where we aren't living in fear and that means giving people a chance. I got burned this time and I am so grateful for taking the advice on being aggressive back because he stopped right quick.
On the good news I am almost done with my pageant paperwork! All I have to do now is find ALL the outfits, choose a headshot, and start practicing and working out more. I'm so excited :D
